KeyStone® Granite Collection Care & Maintenance

Routine Care and Maintenance

To clean your granite top, a few drops of neutral cleaner, stone cleaner or a mild liquid dishwashing detergent and warm water can be used.  Too much cleaner or soap may leave a film and cause streaks.  Rinse the surface thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth.  Change the rinse water frequently.  Refrain from using abrasive cleaners that will scratch the top.

To minimize soap scum in bath or  wet areas, a squeegee can be used on the deck.  To remove soap scum, use a non-acidic soap scum remover or a solution of ammonia and water (about 1/2 cup ammonia to a gallon of water).  However, frequent use of ammonia solutions can eventually dull the surface of the stone

Spills & Stains

Blot the spill with paper towel immediately.

Do not wipe the area.  Doing so will just spread it throughout the top.

Flush the area with plain water and mild soap and rinse several times.

Dry the area thoroughly with a soft cloth.

Repeat as necessary.

Preventative Care

To ensure the beauty of your granite top, it is recommended that you place coasters under all glasses, especially those containing alcoholic beverages or citrus juices.  Many common foods and drinks contain acids that will etch or dull the surface.

Hot items should not be placed directly onto the surface of your top.  Trivets or hot pads must be placed under hot dishes or heat generating appliances.

To ensure ultimate performance of your top, cutting directly on the deck of your surface should be avoided.  Cutting boards should be used to prevent any unsightly scratches.  Placemats should be placed between china, ceramics, silver and other abrasive objects to help prevent scratches and
blemishes.

Do's and Don'ts

  • Do clean surfaces with mild detergent or stone soap.

  • Do thoroughly rinse and dry the surface after washing.

  • Do blot up spills immediately.

  • Do not use acidic cleaners such as bathroom cleaners, grout cleaners or tub & tile cleaners.

  • Do not use abrasive cleaners such as dry cleansers or soft cleansers.

  • Do not mix bleach and ammonia; this combination creates a toxic and lethal gas.
